Chicago fashion is nothing like New York, Milan, or Paris. However, the city is thriving with talented designers. Chicago use to have an official Fashion Week that was called Fashion Focus and was supported by the city of Chicago. Unfortunately, funding was cut in 2016.
This year Fashion Bar LLC, a fashion consulting & promotions company, announced Chicago’s Fashion Week in the month of October ranging from Oct 20-24, 27, and the 29th with proceeds benefitting the American Cancer Society. The week featured multiple parties and runways featuring designs from local designers.
Due to some other commitments, I was unable to attend many of the events. However, I was thrilled to attend Tuesday’s event which was called Anastasia’s Fashion Week Mixer.
Anastasia Chatzka is a Chicago-based fashion designer that has launched her brand Anastasia about four years ago. The Anastasia brand embodies an eclectic, urban lifestyle. The mixer was held in her design studio which was filled with her personal favorite designs, a wall of sewing patterns, and many fashion illustrations.
I mingled with fashion forward guests and local influencers. Wine and appetizers were served and everyone was able to see the real live work-space where Anastasia’s ideas come to life.
After working with various designers such as Betsey Johnson & Anna Sui in New York, Anastasia decided to start her own clothing line. High quality garments is what she prides herself in. Anastasia explained how she oversees the whole manufacturing process and that all her designs are manufactured in Chicago. By managing the whole operation, she is able to avoid extra mark-up and maintain a high quality standard.
Not only is the quality top-notch, she also designs clothing from sizes 0-16. She accommodates all shapes and sizes—something not all designers are skilled to do. In addition, she does custom work including weddings dresses and even men’s apparel. All her collections are in her boutique (1001 N. Damen Ave, Chicago, IL 60622) and she has a new line for every season. One of her signature pieces featured in all collections is her pencil skirt—an essential every woman should have!
When I asked about who her customer is, she described her customer as a fun, professional women that isn’t afraid of taking risks.
If you’re ever looking for a special occasion dress, a good pencil skirt that will last a lifetime, or even a complete custom dress, be sure to stop by Anastasia’s boutique.
